Program Overview
The Discovery Launchpad at NRRI helps startups and new business initiatives commercialize game-changing technologies to solve global resource challenges.
What We Do
Consistent with a similar program on the UMN Twin Cities campus and through partnering with regional organizations, the Discovery Launchpad provides hands-on leadership to entrepreneurs on topics such as:
- Commercialization strategy and commercialization gap analysis
- Business model creation using Business Model Canvas tools
- Value proposition and voice of customer (utilizing MIN-Corp tools)
- Company formation
- Market feasibility and analysis
- Marketing and sales plans
- Financial planning and funding options (e.g. Discovery Capital)
- Building the team
- Business processes
- Technology readiness
- Intellectual property
- Product definition, feasibility, prototyping, and development
- IT and Ops Systems
- Regulatory processes
Who We Help
- Applicants are either UMN Faculty and Staff or
- Minnesota entrepreneurs or
- New business initiatives from established companies or
- NRRI clients with a focus on natural resource technologies and that need help with commercialization challenges
How We Do It
After assessing the needs of each opportunity, the Discovery Launchpad will recommend a training and support program that includes connecting entrepreneurs with advisors, consultants, resources, and physical space.
