Commissioners of the International Joint Commission, a bi-national organization established by the United States and Canada to jointly manage waters bordering the two countries, have appointed Lucinda Johnson as U.S. Co-chair of the Science Advisory Board – Science Priority Committee for a three-year term.
Johnson is Director of Research at the University of Minnesota’s Natural Resources Research Institute.
This committee was established to assist the Commission in the exercise of the powers and responsibilities assigned to it under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. The Board is comprised of an equal number of members from the U.S. and Canada, working toward resolution of issues and decision-making in the interest of both countries.
Johnson previously served as a member of the IJC Science Priority Committee and has most recently been co-leading a workgroup to design a framework for an early warning system for the Great Lakes.
