Lucinda Johnson, NRRI associate director and senior scientist, was appointed to Governor Tim Walz’ Advisory Council on Climate Change in September. The Council will work with the Climate Change Subcabinet to identify innovative policies and strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase climate resiliency.
The Council is made up of 15 people across public, private and nonprofit sectors.
“This Advisory Council will provide valuable input on how we can achieve the emissions reductions needed to get us back on track to meet our Next Generation Energy Act goals, explore natural and agricultural solutions to reduce carbon, and promote a green economic recovery in Minnesota,” said Governor Walz.
Johnson has participated in several research projects assessing impacts of climate change on aquatic ecosystems (especially fish and water temperature) in Minnesota lakes and streams, and co-authored two publications reviewing impacts of climate change on the Great Lakes region.
“NRRI is extremely pleased to have one of our senior scientists invited to contribute to this critical effort,” said NRRI Executive Director Rolf Weberg. “Dr. Johnson is uniquely qualified to offer both regional and globally-relevant expertise and perspective to the conversation.”
