NRRI newsletter wins CASE District V Award

NRRI Now recognized by academic communicators with silver 'Pride of CASE' award.

The Council for Advancement & Support of Education (CASE) District V awarded the NRRI Now monthly newsletter a Silver ‘Pride of CASE V’ Award in the digital communications category. The award recognizes the newsletter’s interesting content and consistently high open and click rates.

The NRRI Now magazine started in 1987 as a quarterly hardcopy newsletter to share research news from the Natural Resources Research Institute at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Starting in 2010, the newsletter was redesigned into a monthly emailed version. The primary purpose is to reach those who fund and engage in NRRI research: legislators, federal and state agencies, industry partners and the University of Minnesota. It also appeals to media and the general public.

“The award really belongs to the whole organization,” said June Breneman, NRRI Manager of Marketing and Communications. “We’re simply packaging and promoting really interesting projects that are relevant to all Minnesotans and beyond.”

NRRI is an applied research organization staffed with interdisciplinary expertise to address the challenges and opportunities in Minnesota’s natural resources-based economy. Newsletter stories range from helping manage forest challenges to research that helps the Iron Range transition to new ore bodies. NRRI researchers are developing new opportunities in forest biomass resources and discovering low-cost sulfate remediation technologies.
