About Us

The Natural Resources Research Institute is a state-chartered applied research institute of the University of Minnesota's Research and Innovation Office. NRRI maintains three sites in Northern Minnesota, focused on informing sound, long-term decisions on the use and stewardship of natural resources.

NRRI was established by the Minnesota legislature in 1983 as an applied science and engineering research organization to inform state citizens and decision-makers while leveraging the power of the University of Minnesota. Our research informs decisions on natural resource utilization and drives economic opportunities for the State of Minnesota and beyond.
